Empowering Arab women with more knowledge about their legal rights is an essential milestone on the path towards them enjoying their basic human rights. But this is important not only for Arab women; one of the recent Arab Human Development Reports have identified the deficit in women’s empowerment as one of the three main deficits that are at the root of human poverty and stifled development in the Arab region.

Arab women, particularly those living in rural areas, often do not know their basic rights and entitlements as citizens, wives, mothers, and workers. Even community workers appointed to provide social assistance are themselves often unable to interpret different laws and procedures, which leads to suffering and injustice not because of unfair laws but because of ignorance of existing laws.

WRCATI aims to empower women to address and resolve issues related to family and labor law, including child support payments, marriage, divorce, adoption, custody, inheritance, and so on by producing user-friendly, easily understandable legal information in textual and audio-visual formats, and training community workers to use this information effectively in supporting women in difficult circumstances.

WRCATI is implemented in several Arab countries, in partnership with local partners who are able to spread and sustain the project nationally, and with funding from international donors.
